New WORLD CHAMPIONS:
The second Annual Tourball Tournament was held last week (w/c 9th July 2007) at the Manor Hotel in Yeovil to find the 2007 Tourball World Champions. The draw was made by Paul Eames on Monday evening and was adjudicated by Sir David Glass.
The results were as follows:
Round One:
Ken Eames & Andy Eames (defending Champions) beat Peter Eames & Paul Eames (rain affected - 1 to 0)
David Harris & Jon Hughes beat Oscar Renton & David Booth (2 to 1)
James Hughes & Matt Thomas (bye)
Andy Brown & Andy Redden beat Charlie Harding & Sir David Glass (rain affected - 1 to 0)
Semi Final (three game match):
David Harris & Jon Hughes beat Ken Eames & Andy Eames (2 to 1)
James Hughes & Matt Thomas beat Andy Brown & Andy Redden
Final (5 game match):
James Hughes & Matt Thomas beat David Harris & Jon Hughes (3 to 2)
James Hughes & Matt Thomas duly became the Winners of the Second Annual Tourball Tournament and will be regarded as World Champions until July 8th 2008, when they will be required to defend their title.
A few points to note:
Defending World champions, Ken and Andy Eames lost in the semi's to the surprise package - David Harris and Jon Hughes. Hot favourites, Oscar Renton and David booth crashed out in the first round to the same pairing.
We've had our first Father v. Son Final.
Convention update: it was agreed that extremely fast throws whilst legitimate, do not acceptable behaviour. An "Accelerated Match" (ie one with extremely fast throwing) can be played as long as both pairs have agreed this prior to the match. This local rule change will NOT be acceptable in the Annual Tournament, where it is agreed that guile and cunning are to be rewarded over brute force.
